Review of the Marea Alta CD "CHUMAR" by John Vidor (Jazz critic from the Cjazz Network), appearing within the section of comments of a website of Contemporary Jazz:http://www.contemporaryjazz.com New York, April 28, 2000 Some of you may remember this Atlanta-based group being mentioned a while back. Up 'til now their CHUMAR release was only available on cassette. Well, the wait is over! The CD's are in! I got mine last week, and what a CD it is! THIS is Cjazz for the millennium. This is the direction Cjazz should be going in. The songs are great, as is the musicianship. For those of you who have become jaded because of so many of the limp offerings of late, wake up and order this one. There are similarities in sound to Spyro Gyra in their heyday, but make no mistake, these guys are originals all the way. And this is no skimpy release either; it's got over 70 minutes of lively grooves that'll make you look up from whatever you're doing. Visit their website at http://www.mareaalta.com and get this one.
